| January to May 1993 |
Scope of works undertaken: Rearrangement of the bow form for sea keeping reasons as the new route for the mv Val de Loire was to be Plymouth to Santander crossing the Bay of Biscay. In addition the ship was upgraded to SOLAS 90 stability standards with inside sponsons used as car deck, new car deck platform and tank re-arrangement. New cabins were installed (about 60) including 16 Junior Suites and rearrangement of existing cabins to reach 1686 passenger berths (formally 1320 berths). Renewal and rearrangement of all public spaces and it is interesting to note that Brittany Ferries were not content with the already high Scandinavian Standards onboard, but wanted to add their own touch and elegance to the six year old ship. Many ship models associated with the Atlantic operations between Europe and America wee bought at auctions to provide a nautical atmosphere onboard (11m GBP was spent on models alone). The passenger certificate was increased from 1600 to 2140 |
