The King of Scandinavia was built as part of a quartet of sisters. Nils Holgersson (Now Princess of Norway) & Peter Pan (Now King of Scandinavia) were built identical for TT-Line service out of Germany and the near identical sisters Olau Hollandia and Olau Brittannia for Olau service between Sheerness and Vlissingen, a subsidiary of TT Line.
The King of Scandinavia entered service with DFDS early 2006 following the announcement that she had been sold by Brittany Ferries in a deal that saw the Val de Loire as she was then transferred to DFDS and the Duke of Scandinavia (DFDS) chartered to Brittany Ferries for a period of two years. Following a short refit the King of Scandinavia entered service on the Newcastle to Imujden route replacing the elderly Duke of Scandinavia.
